Start with the reason you need an ITIN
An ITIN is an individual tax processing number. It is for a person who needs a U.S. taxpayer identification number for a federal tax purpose and is not eligible for a Social Security number. Living in Pakistan does not, by itself, establish eligibility.
Before paying for assistance, write down the transaction, income, return, or other tax matter that led you to apply. Bring any relevant correspondence to your consultation. A general goal such as building credit does not explain the required federal tax purpose.
- Describe the reason for applying without sharing your tax ID in the enquiry form.
- Say whether this is a first application, renewal, or response to an IRS notice.
- Ask whether a federal tax return or evidence for a recognised exception is required.
Plan the application and document review
The application uses Form W-7. Most applicants submit it with a federal tax return unless an exception applies. The correct package depends on your circumstances; do not select an exception merely because it appears faster.
Discuss document handling before sending anything. A CAA can authenticate documents within its permitted scope, but not every document or dependent application follows the same process. Confirm the appointment, what must be presented, and how any originals are returned.
- Check that your name, date of birth, and mailing details are consistent.
- Prepare previous IRS letters if you have already applied.
- Keep a record of what was sent and how follow-up will be handled.
Understand the price and timing
Ask for a written quote that distinguishes application preparation, CAA document work, any tax return preparation, and delivery costs. Ask whether support with an additional-information notice is included. A quoted fee should describe the work being purchased, rather than promise an IRS decision.
Plan around document readiness, delivery, and IRS processing as separate stages. If the number is needed for a particular tax matter, explain that date at the start. Avoid making commitments to a bank or another provider based on an assumed approval date.
Prepare a useful first enquiry
You can begin with a short description: “I live in Pakistan, this is my first ITIN application, and my reason for applying is [tax purpose]. I need help understanding the documents and total service cost.” This gives the team enough context to suggest the next conversation.
The public form is for initial contact. Keep passport images, tax IDs, bank credentials, and confidential tax documents out of the message. Document arrangements are agreed separately during onboarding.
